その起源は、中国最古の薬物書『神農本草経（しんのうほんぞうきょう）』に遡ります。成立年代は定かではありませんが、一般的には紀元1～2世紀頃とされています。
平安の昔、遣唐使によってもたらされた茶は、当初は薬として伝わり、心を鎮め、身体を清めるものとして大切に扱われてきました。
「産土（うぶすな）」とは、日本に古来より伝わる言葉で、生まれた土地、すなわちその地を護る神々を意味します。土地固有の風土・文化・自然の恵みに感謝し、その循環の中で共に生きる心を大切にすることを表しています。
